Archives Reading RoomVisiting the Archives and Special Collections

The Archives and Special Collections is located on the 8th floor of the McNairy Library and Learning Forum. We welcome all Millersville University students, faculty, and staff as well as members of the public to visit our Reading Room to view our rotating exhibits and see one of the best views of our lovely campus!

Most of our records require advanced notice to view. To arrange a visit, please follow the steps below and contact us. Drop-in appointments to view materials cannot be accommodated.

Conducting Research in the Archives & Special Collections

If you would like to conduct research or consult records at the Millersville University Archives & Special Collections, follow these steps:

 

Step One: Find Materials

Use our online finding aid platform to search our publicly available collections. If you cannot find what you are looking for, or have questions about what you find, contact us at special.collections@millersville.edu for assistance.

 

Step Two: Request an Appointment

Once you have identified materials you would like to view, please complete our Materials Request Form to schedule a time to visit. Please include in your email the URL link to the materials on our online finding aid platform as well as your date and time preferences.

Visits require a minimum notice of 2 business days (Monday-Friday), as records will need to be retrieved from their storage locations.

 

Step Three: Appointment Confirmation

You will receive an email from us confirming your appointment time and date. See below for information about what to expect when you arrive!

Visiting the Archives and Special Collections is simple and easy!

  1. If you would like to use our materials, please follow the steps above for Conducting Research in Archives & Special Collections, or contact us for assistance. If you are visiting to view our exhibits or reference materials, no appointment is required!
  2. When you enter the McNairy Library, turn right at the Front Desk to find the elevators. The Archives and Special Collections is located on the 8th floor.
  3. When you exit the elevators, you will see the door to the Reading Room on one side of the hallway.
  4. You will sign in at the front desk.
  5. If you have any food, beverages, jackets, or bags, you will be given a key to place those items in a secure locker outside of the Reading Room. 
  6. No pens or markers are allowed to be used in the Reading Room; pencils are available.
  7. Photographs without flash are allowed, subject to our Reproduction Policies.

Archives and Special Collections materials cannot be checked out, and cannot be removed from the Reading Room. If you need a copy of an item, please see our Scans and Reproductions page for more information.
