McNairy Library and Learning Forum Policies

Request It

Rationale for Request It Service

The Request It service provided by McNairy Library at Millersville University is to provide faculty, students, staff, and extended community with access to information of electronic materials in all subject areas that are available in the physical form at McNairy Library.

Eligibility of use of Request It Service

The following are required to make a Request It Request for access to millions of articles:

·  Has a valid Millersville University e-mail address on file with the library.

Placing Requests for Request It Service

If you would like to request a certain item, please check the library catalog to determine if the library has the item in question, and if the item is currently available (eg, not charged out, at the bindery, lost, etc. or otherwise not available).

Library staff may only process Request It requests for PHYSICAL items that are held and available in the applicable collections as stated at the top of this policy.  If an item is available both physically and electronically, the request for it will be denied with the indication that it is possible to obtain an electronic copy without use of this service. Library staff will make ONE copy intended for the personal or educational use of the person making the request.

Requests for Request It of library articles must be made electronically via the Request It form. This form can be accessed after logging in to “Tools and Services” on the McNairy Library’s website.  Or, look for the green squirrel when you are in a library database to make a request in Request It.

Processing Request It Requests

The requested item must be allowable under copyright law.  (Example: scanning/copying a specific journal article or book chapter is allowable, but scanning/copying the entire run of the journal or the entire book is not allowable under copyright law.)

Request It requests are processed on a first come, first served basis, subject to the following limitations.

· Only 3 requests per person, per day, will be processed unless circumstances permit more requests to be filled in the standard delivery time.

· From time to time file transfer sizes may limit our ability to distribute the request in one file. Large requests may be processed in smaller increments. The library may indicate that exceptionally large documents will be delivered via campus mail or made available for pick up at the Main Circulation Desk at the Library.

The library reserves the right to modify the number of requests processed per person on a daily basis.

Delivery of Request It Items

The library will attempt to fill electronic article and book chapter requests within 48 hours from the time of submission (excluding days the library is closed). Requests for items will be made available to the requesting patron via electronic means (secure website) in most cases.
