McNairy Library and Learning Forum Code of Conduct

Use of the library facilities and materials is subject to applicable federal and state laws, local ordinances, Millersville Judicial Affairs Handbook – Section B: Student Code of Conduct, Millersville Policy for Responsible Use and other University policies that guide behavior on the campus. Students are asked to refrain from bringing animals other than trained service companions into the library.

Please don't steal. We encourage you to borrow our materials but items must be checked out at the Circulation Desk prior to leaving the building. Unauthorized removal of library materials constitutes theft.

Please take care of library items. Materials belong to the entire Millersville community; Examples of damaging behavior include marking, underlining, or removing pages from books, tampering with electronic anti-theft devices, and defacing materials, computers, or furniture.

Please respect due dates. Someone might be waiting for the items you have checked out. Please return items on time and pay applicable fines and/or fees for late or lost materials. Moving or concealing library materials for the exclusive use of a group or individual is not allowed.

Please respect copyright restrictions and principles for fair use. If you have questions about whether or not you are allowed to make copies or use certain material, refer to the Millersville University Copyright Policy or ask a librarian for clarification.

Please be courteous and respectful to others. Disruptive activity, including but not limited to rowdiness, harassment, abusive or threatening behavior, loud cell phone conversations, skating, and other activities that interfere with normal use of the library are not permitted. Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult unless using United States government documents.

Please follow emergency procedures. Comply with authorized personnel during emergency situations or drills, including vacating the building when instructed. Emergency exits should not be opened for non-emergency situations.

Please protect your belongings. Leaving personal belongings unattended encourages theft. The library is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Please keep the library clean and inviting. Smoking is prohibited. Please dispose of trash and recyclables in designated receptacles.

Violations

Violations of the Millersville Judicial Affairs Student Code of Conduct, Policy of Responsible Use, or the McNairy Library and Learning Forum Code of Conduct may result in the following:

  • Verbal warning
  • Request to leave the building
  • Report to the police
  • Disciplinary action by the university
  • Legal action
