Government Documents: Policies

Depository Library Use Policy Guidelines

Computer Access:  Two computer terminals within the Information Commons area on the first floor of the library are intended for use by the general public.  These terminals allow users to access online government documents, the library catalog, and other information resources using login credentials that are posted near the machines.  The computers are equipped with USB ports so users wishing to download electronic copies of government documents to their USB drives are welcome to do so.  PLEASE NOTE:  The login credentials will work ONLY on the two terminals designated for use by community users, not on any of the other terminals in the Information Commons.

Access to Physical Documents:  Most government documents are cataloged and classified like other books and are shelved in the library's General Collection at the call number listed in the library catalog. A small number of documents continue to be classified according to the Superintendent of Documents classification system.  These are identified in the library catalog as "Government Documents."  Please contact the Circulation Desk in McNairy Library in order to request access to these materials.

Access to Microfiche Documents:  Members of the University community who wish to view microfiche documents should request a copy of the document through the library's Request-It service.  Members of the general public may request a complementary copy of any microfiche document using the paper form available at the McNairy Library Circulation Desk.

Emailing Documents:  Users may email documents to themselves in the following manner: Download the file to the terminal desktop; access online email account; and then send an email from the online email account with the attached document.

Obtaining Print Copies of Electronic Documents:  Electronic documents may be sent from the networked or public computer terminals to the library's GoPrint stations.  University students, faculty, and staff may release print jobs at the GoPrint stations using their University credentials (aka M numbers).  Normal printing charges apply.  Members of the general public will need to set  up a GoPrint account to be able to pay for and print requests.  Money can be added to the GoPrint account in $5.00 increments.  All print jobs should be sent to https://millersville.edu/printanywhere Instructions for using the GoPrint system are located next to the public terminals.

Obtaining Print Copies of Physical Documents:  Users may scan physical documents using the library's scanner and either save the resulting file to a USB drive or email it to themselves.  If a print copy is desired, the file may then be printed using the procedures described above for electronic documents.

Reference Assistance:  Reference assistance in finding and using depository resources is available through the library's “Ask A Librarian” service at http://www.library.millersville.edu/tools-services/ask-librarian or by contacting Depository Coordinator Teresa Weisser at teresa.weisser@millersville.edu or by telephone at (717)872-3604.
