Faculty Guide to Instruct

About Instruct Information Literacy Learning Objects

Information Literacy (IL) refers to the ability to recognize a need for information and to find, analyze, and synthesize related material from books, articles, websites and more.

What are the Instruct Learning Objects?

Instruct is a set of 60+ short online videos, self-guided tutorials, and quizzes covering information literacy. These learning objects can be used by students outside the classroom to cover a wide range of topics including getting started with research, evaluating information, recognizing bias, and citing sources.

The learning objects can be embedded into D2L, used on Library Guides or other websites, and shared via direct links.

How can I use them?

  • Before Library Instruction: so librarians can focus their in-person time with students on hands-on activities
  • Scaffolded Throughout Your Course: to incorporate research instruction/information literacy without taking up too much class-time
  • As a Review Tool: for students who need a refresher on the basics

To review the learning objects, visit the Instruct: Information Literacy Overview page.

If you are interested in using the Instruct learning objects we would be happy to consult with you about ways to integrate these modules into courses or instruction. Please contact your subject librarian or email library.instruction@millersville.edu.
